It’s Been Awhile

It’s been three years since Eric, Noel and I had been on an overnight photography roadtrip. As with most things in life, photography has evolved for us over the years. The multi-day roadtrips have been replaced with quick morning adventures close to home, editing is quicker and simpler and sharing work on social media is a lot less frequent (usually once or twice a year). So in early February, we packed our gear and headed north for a long awaited roadtrip.

Our destination was the place of our very first roadtrip together almost a decade ago, Big Sur, California. It was the birthplace of our little crew we call “Th3roadtrip.” Over the years, we’ve experienced so much beauty of our natural areas, shared many hilarious stories and had our fair share of sketchy moments. I always appreciate the times we can get together, point our cameras at beautiful landscapes and just “shoot the sh*t” together. These days, I am more interested in the latter. Pictures are nice and all but the memories with good friends… that’s gold.

I do miss escaping on these big photography trips as often as we did years ago but I am happy that I still get to photograph with them as often as I do. Photography just looks a little bit different these days. Truth be told, there was a time when I would get down because the time between the trips seemed to get longer and longer but over the years I realized photography for me is simply evolving into a more beautiful version of itself. I am in a wonderful place now where the puzzle pieces of life align harmoniously. I enjoy photography and how it has shaped my life but what makes me happy is living a life that I love photographing.

When I reflect back on the images from the trip, the memories of the time spent creating alongside friends stands out more than the photographs themselves. The images serve more as triggers of fond memories.

Below are some images from the three days we were in the Big Sur area. Looking forward to the next roadtrip.

Thanks for stopping by. - M
