After the Storm
On this morning, I met up with a good friend of mine Noel for a sunrise adventure. A storm was passing through town and we were hoping to get lucky with some post-storm good light and clouds.
Originally, we had wanted to go on a hike to one of the local peaks here in town but when we woke we noticed it was still raining in that area. We called an audible and ventured down to one of the most iconic views of San Diego, the Embarcadero Marina Park. If you're visiting town it is definitely worth the trip out here for some photography.
Over the past few years, I have preferred making images of nature-oriented scenes over city-oriented. This classic scene was one one I had tried to make about 4 years ago. The light never worked out and I had not been back since. Itching for one last shot at photography before holiday break ends, I wanted to go out regardless.
It was nice catching up with Noel after the holidays. It had been some time. As much as I love the craft of photography, it is the people I spend time adventuring with and the stories we write along the way. After we get our fix on the images we want to make, we usually spend the rest of the time just talking about life-oriented things, goals, work, etc.
Today was no different. A lot has happened with me in my personal life lately and it was great to share the news with Noel in person. It was great discussing all the new things that we both have planned for 2019 and beyond.
The conversations we have on all our photography trips are all so inspiring and motivating. We feed off of each other's positive vibes and goals. A lot of the time the conversations spin off to other potential ideas for the creative arts. Writing, apparel, design and videography to name a few.
It has been a blessing adventuring and continuing to grow in this craft with folks like Noel. Not only are they inspiring from a creative standpoint, they are solid humans.
Looking forward to more adventures in 2019. Eric, if you are reading this, we are finally going back to Big Sur in a few months. Pack your bags and give me a call, bud!
Below are some images I made this morning at the Embarcadero.
Until next time! - Marco
